The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has said the party cannot prevent the Rawlingses and any other member for that matter from breaking away if they so wish.
While assuring that the NDC will ensure its July 8 presidential primary is free and fair in order to remove any alibi the Rawlingses may plead, it cannot debar any members from exercising their democratic right to break away from the governing party.
To break away from the NDC after losing an election, Mr Asiedu Nketiah, popularly called General Mosquito believes, can only raise questions about the democratic credentials of the persons involved.
The NDC, he said, was not worried at all by the tacit threats by former President Rawlings and former Vice-Chairman and failed flagbearer hopeful, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah that a new political party may emerge from the NDC should former First Lady Nana Konadu lose the primary under questionable circumstances.
General Mosquito said the party was not worried because it had taken all the concerns raised by the Konadu camp into consideration and would ensure that Mrs Rawlings, her husband and supporters have nothing to point to as a flaw in the electoral process.
It is the expectation of the leadership of the NDC that all persons who believe in democratic tenets and principles accept the outcome of the democratic process, he noted.
Meanwhile the party is this week vetting its two candidates - President Mills and Nana Konadu - for the flag-bearership contest.
Nana Konadu will take her turn today.
