Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has made a clarion call to Ghanaians to return the New Patriotic Party to power so it can return the nation onto the path of growth and prosperity.
He says the “NPP is only pleading to the entire country of Ghana to hear. We are like missionaries; we are not in there for ourselves, we are [here] to lift Ghana up to be the true beacon. It is not fanciful politics we want to do. Ours is a mission to put Ghana on a pedestal to be the real beacon, not just for the sub-region of West Africa but even for the entire continent of Africa to see that truly Africa can come into its own to take its rightful place side by side with the other continents.”
J.A. Kufuor made these comments as the Guest of Honour at the maiden Liberty Lectures orgainsed by the Danquah Institute and headlined with a policy statement by the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday night at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.
The former president stated that his administration engineered a paradigm shift which has yielded positive results that the country is still benefiting from under the current dispensation.
“The short eight-year period we had, we achieved a paradigm shift without which I tell you, Ghana wouldn’t be anywhere near where it is today. And we were able to do it, again, following the vision and beliefs of the old people. Unfortunately the government was betrayed and this is why Ghana is in the current hardships and stagnation.”
He added that Ghana, like all countries in the world, requires a leader who has foresight to bring real change in the lives of the people.
