The Chief Executive Officer of Stratcomm Africa, Madam Esther Cobbah has advised African youth to see themselves as leaders of today and lead in everything that concerns them.
The CEO made the remarks during a Social Night with the Fellows of the Moremi Initiative Leadership and Empowerment Development (MILEAD) in Accra.
The MILEAD program is instituted by the Moremi Initiative for Women’s Leadership in Africa. The 2013 MILEAD Fellows were selected from 27 African countries and the Diaspora. The 30 selected young ladies are an extraordinary group of emerging young African women leaders, between the ages of 19 and 25 years, who are enrolled in the MILEAD Institute at the University of Ghana campus and are being mentored by seasoned African women leaders.
Madam Esther Cobbah, who was invited by the organisers to motivate the young ladies, spoke on the topic “The Power to Lead, Commitment to Serve” at the official launching of the 2013 MILEAD program and subsequently at a social night organized by Stratcomm Africa for the Fellows. She encouraged the youth to be willing to learn from people that they serve.
“The power to lead is also about humility on the part of the leader or change agent. It is dangerous when leaders give the impression of being know-alls and do not appreciate the value of contributions of others”, stated Ms Cobbah.
She also urged the Fellows to put their God-given talent to use and never give up on their visions. “Developing your leadership capacity is about your self-discovery as an individual and cultivation of the endowments that God has put in you. Tap the deepest part of all that you are by fully owning it, not fearing it, not suppressing it or resisting it, or misusing it, but rather embracing it to become more of yourself,” added Ms Cobbah.
In brief remarks, the Co-Chair of the Institute’s Planning Committee of the MILEAD program, Mr. Mawuli Dake, expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Fellows and the Institute to Stratcomm Africa for the kind gesture of organizing the social night for the Fellows.
The Fellows were very excited about the fun night and the opportunity to interact and be mentored by the CEO of Stratcomm Africa.
Ms Khahliso Khama, a journalist and a TV producer from Lesotho, who is also a Fellow, could only express her excitement in these few words: “It was an awesome night. For me, it is particularly exciting to learn from someone in the same profession”.
The dinner was a night of interaction on leadership through fun.
