Mr Robert Kempes Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) has called on the industrial community and other key players in the metropolis to facilitate revenue generation to boost development.
He said the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) was aware of the deteriorating condition of sewer lines, road network and insanitary conditions in the metropolis, which required immediate attention but said the assembly alone, could not shoulder all the development challenges from its internally generated funds.
Mr Ofosuware made the call when executives of the Tema branch of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) paid a courtesy call on him at his office.
The MCE said though the assembly was exploring avenues to mobilize funds to develop the area, the active support of the industrial concerns would help to step up these efforts.
He explained that for more than 40 years most of the sewer lines have not been replaced.
Mr Ofosuware also expressed the commitment of the TMA to address sanitary problems in the city.
Mr Charles Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the Myroc Food Processing Company, who is the chairman of the Tema branch of the AGI, expressed the willingness of the association to assist the TMA in its efforts to mobilise funds promote the development the city.
He gave the assurance that the association would expose corporate bodies that evade payment of taxes to the detriment of development.
Mr Mensah called on the TMA to adopt aggressive marketing strategies to reach all potential revenue generating sources, to ensure that they all respond to their civic roles.
He asked the assembly to involve the AGI in the fixing of taxes to ensure that all areas are covered.Source: GNA
