The founder of the Right to Dream Academy, Tom Vernon, will no longer serve on the boards of Right to Dream group, FC Nordsjaelland and San Diego FC.
In a statement released on Monday, Mr. Vernon said ‘‘I’m stepping down from the Boards of Right to Dream group, FC Nordsjaelland and San Diego FC all of which I have been a member of since their inception. I will dedicate my time to new impact visions I have, compounding the learnings from the philosophy that sits at the core of the organization I founded 26 years ago.’’
The former Manchester United scout will now focus on the governance, visioning and operations of the Right to Dream Foundation, which hosts the academy in Ghana.
‘‘I leave FCN knowing I gave it everything I had. To everyone who helped me in building the amazing club we have become I have the deepest thanks. In its short History FC Nordsjælland has a list of remarkable chairmen who have delivered improbable success. I’m proud to have led a remarkable team that have added another great chapter the past 8 years,’’ he said.
Vernon founded the Right to Dream project in Ghana in 1999, with 16 players in his house.
What started in Tom Vernon’s house is now a football group with Academies in Denmark, Egypt, Ivory Coast and the USA, as well as in Ghana. The group also encapsulates professional clubs with Nordsjaelland in Denmark and San Diego in the MLS.
‘‘There are very few clubs in the world who are a reference point of excellence across as many performance indicators as FCN, I'm extremely proud of what we managed to achieve. I learned more than I gave and I will always be a tiger,’’ he concluded.
