The Executive Director of the Institute of Human Resource Practitioners, Asare Bediako, has added his voice to calls for state agencies to enforce regulations covering the number of foreign workers employed into senior management position by foreign companies.
The current investment law on quota and work permits allows these companies to employ up to four persons depending on their investments with a window to employ additional hands upon special request.
It however appears the rule is not being followed to the letter. A careful look at the senior management structure of many of the companies shows most of them are abusing the laws.
Mr. Bediako believes the situation is worrying and says the relevant agencies would have to step up enforcement to stem the tide.
He urged the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre to enforce the regulation on the number of expatriates that are employed to executive positions of companies.
He warned that if the situation is not addressed very soon there wouldn’t be enough Ghanaians with the requisite experience to manage companies in sensitive sectors of the economy.
