Engineers of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) have begun repair works on the pipelines that exploded Tuesday and brought the Tema Industrial Area to a standstill.

Officials are hopeful the leaking pipeline which is believed to have caused the fire will be fixed by close of Saturday, for normal operations to resume.

The fire, which raged for hours, resulted in one death and injured three others. Some residents also siphoned the heavy Naphta, which is used for fishing activities, from the scene of the accident.

The disaster has caused TOR to lose an estimated US$280,000 in fuel according to Head of Public Affairs at TOR, Aba Lokko.

She disclosed that as of Thursday, US$280,000 being 300 metric tons of Naphta at a cost of $900 a ton, was lost as a result of the fire outbreak.

One Mr. Mensah, 35, an electrician, was reportedly electrocuted, when he run into a tumbling electric pole.

"As at yesterday, evacuation of both water and NAPHTA is still on-going and by close of day, today [Friday], we will finish the exercise", she indicated.

Additionally, Aba Lokko said the hardness test of the pipeline has been completed and identified that the pipes are fit to be used.

"This week, we will complete with the evacuation exercise", she stressed.

Meanwhile, the committee set up by the Energy Ministry to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak on the TOR pipeline begun its work today.
