Two Senior High School leavers in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Northern Region, are now running a primary school there, after teacher trainees abandoned the Poru Primary school two years ago.
Nuopo Sey John, who completed Wa Technical Institute in 2010, sees to the day to day administration of the school while his colleague, James Sogli joins in educating the school pupils.
The two, according to Upper West Regional correspondent, Rafiq Salam, volunteered to offer their services to the school in a bid to improve education in the area although they are not paid for the services rendered.
"Doing something without receiving anything is just like wasting your life...but we try our best to help them [pupils] because they are our junior brothers and sisters," Nuapo Sey John told Rafiq.
The community can only boast of one graduate since the school was established in 1998.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over a three-unit classroom and teachers' block to the school, Isaac Dramani Mumuni, District Chief Executive appealed to the Ghana Education Service to send teachers to the area.
"We are appealing to the GES to post at least two or three teachers to the school," Mr. Mumuni pleaded.
The new school block was funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the cost of GH¢520,000.
