Two people have died in a gory accident at Asante-Akim Agogo in the Ashanti Region after the rim of a lorry tyre they were working on struck them following an explosion.
Two others also suffered severe injuries are said to be in critical condition at the local Presbyterian Hospital.
Yaw Debrah, 34, a welder, and Kofi Junior, 19, a tricycle rider, had their heads smashed-off by the metal rim.
One of the injured victims is identified only as Akwasi, a mason, but the other is yet to be named.
Nhyira News sources say driver of a tipper truck took the inflated but defective tyre to the welding shop at Pan African School Junction for repairs at about 9 a.m. Monday.
The welder, according to eyewitnesses, failed to deflate the tyre before applying heat to the faulty rim.
In the process, the heavy metal came off, accompanied by a huge blast, resulting in the tragedy.
The tipper truck driver who had left the scene to urinate a few seconds before the accident escaped unhurt.
The disfigured bodies of the two deceased victims have been deposited at the morgue, while the inured are receiving treatment.
