Uncle Ebo Whyte on African Voices

African Voices is a half-hour magazine programme on CNN International and it is sponsored by West African telecommunications operator, Globacom. The programme brings to viewers successful and high-profile personalities shaping the African continent. 

Uncle Ebo Whyte is a renowned playwright who has helped revive theatre in Ghana. The writer  is a passionate storyteller with a series of plays to his credit that keep people coming back and filling seats at theatre halls. 

Last weekend’s edition of the the programme, aired on Friday and Saturday, will be repeated on Monday (2:30a.m., 10:30a.m), Tuesday at 5:30a.m. and on Wednesday at 8.30 a.m.

Whyte talks about the life-changing events that have helped him become the confident writer, director, and successful producer.

For the past thirteen years, Uncle Ebo has been working at creating a niche for himself as a household name in Theatre Arts and says: "The possibilities in the theatre industry are endless."

Renowned for his thoroughness, his hard work has paid off as he has had two huge successes within the last couple of months with his plays "Unhappy Wives Confused Husbands" and "Mr. President watch your move."

Uncle Ebo trained as a statistician at the University of Ghana. He tutored himself to take his chartered account and marketing exams and worked as the head of Marketing and Finance at Asempa Publishing Company. He was also the General Manager of Kinapharma, a leading pharmaceutical company, head of Marketing and Sales of an automobile company and as head of Finance in a non-bank financial institution.

He tells viewers why he decided to abandon the corporate world for a career in theatre. He also talks about his hugely popular inspirational programme "Food for Thought" on Ghana’s Joy FM.
