Police at Diaso in the Central Region have raised GH¢8,000 over a two-year period to pay for their accommodation.
They could not get support from the government or the police administration in Accra.
With help from the townspeople, the police officers in Diaso secured the relatively spacious facility and upgraded it to a status befitting of a District Command.
District Commander, DSP Osei Adu Agyemang said, “we had to manage to get this place because the district [assembly] could not do anything for us.”
However, the tenancy agreement expires this month, and that leaves the command in a state of uncertainty.
The Command say they cannot afford the cost of retaining the space due to lack of funds.
The renewal of tenancy agreement would cost the district command GH¢8,000 a year.
DSP Agymenang said, “we have met the landlord and discussed the new tenancy agreement but we are waiting for support from the district assembly.”
He added that they would have no option than to go back to an old dilapidated facility unless his outfit is able to pay or get support from the government.
Whether or not personnel will continue to occupy the facility will be at the discretion of the property owner.
