The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi has transformed into the epicentre of national mourning, with massive crowds gathering hours ahead of the scheduled burial service for Highlife music icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba (DL).
The stadium, usually a venue for major sporting events, is the designated site for the public viewing and funeral service, underscoring the monumental cultural status of the deceased.
As of late Friday evening (December 12), after a High Court gave the green light for the funeral to go ahead, hundreds of mourners had trooped to the stadium.
The cameras of JoyNews spotted traders busily selling T-shirts of different colours with Daddy Lumba images embossed on them.

Others were also selling different paraphernalia associated with the celebrated highlife legend, as some mourners were spotted providing different commentaries about the funeral that had generated drama over the past few weeks.
The Final Journey
Daddy Lumba, whose musical career spanned over thirty years and yielded more than 30 hit albums, left an indelible mark on Ghanaian music.
Today's service is Ghana's opportunity to collectively honour the man who gave the nation songs that defined generations, from poignant ballads like Sese Wo Suban to popular anthems like Aben Wo Aha.
Following the public service and tribute performances, the body is expected to be moved to a private location for interment, officially closing the chapter on the life of Charles Kwadwo Fosu.
The scenes at Baba Yara today confirm that his legacy will continue to resonate long after the final farewell.
