Global Fones, considered to be one of the key players in the mobile phone industry, has welcomed the government's proposal to abolish taxation on the importation of mobile phones. The Sales and Marketing Manager of the company, Mr Kwesi Ntiri Owusu said the initiative of the government to impose taxes on airtime would enhance revenue generation for sustainable national development, and therefore urged Ghanaians to embrace it. According to him the initiative of the government would ensure that phone users were guaranteed quality products. Addressing journalists in Kumasi during the inauguration of the company, Mr Owusu said by abolishing the tax phone dealers would import quality products. The company which is the authorised distributor of Motorola phones in Ghana, has three offices in Tema and would open another one in Accra next year. He expressed the hope that it would extend its operations to Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Senegal and other African countries next year. Mr Owusu said the company had slashed prices on all handsets to enable prospective customers to own quality handsets. The business development executive of the company, Mr Clifford Anim, said the company was in the system to educate all mobile phone users not only to use the phones to make calls, send text messages but also go beyond that. He said a phone was a productivity tool which is effective in your job, schooling, among others. Mr Anim stressed that the company would establish good relationship with all customers, and urged all those who travelled all the way to Dubai and China for phones to stop since the company operated as both retailers and distributors. They also advised customers, especially drivers, to be careful when driving.
