The Adentan Circuit Court has fined three individuals GH₵4,000 each after they admitted to assaulting Nicholas Teye, a teacher at West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in Adenta.
In addition to the fines, the court ordered each of them to sign a two-year bond of good behaviour.
Delivering judgment on Monday, March 30, 2026, the presiding judge noted several mitigating factors, including that two of the convicts are students preparing for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The court also took into account that all three had already spent six weeks in remand following their initial court appearance.
The case arises from an incident in February 2026 on the WASS campus, where Mr Teye was attacked after a confrontation with one of the students, which reportedly escalated.
The assault drew widespread attention and condemnation from education stakeholders, particularly teacher unions, who expressed concerns about rising indiscipline and safety within schools.
Mr Teye, who sustained injuries during the attack, is reported to be recovering.
Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and other educators attended court in a show of solidarity with Mr Teye.
