Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr. Affail Monnie has said that the GJA is very concerned about its image over recent allegation of bribery against some media practitioners.Deputy Information Minister Baba Jamal is challenging allegations by the New Patriotic Party that he met a group of journalists in the Upper East region and promised them cars and cash if they would do the bidding of the government.He has threatened a legal suit if media houses said to have attributed the acts, captured on tape recording, do not retract the publication and apologise to him.The deal, the accusers allege, was to sponsor the journalists through the National Youth Employment Programme to get them to embark on publications favourable to the ruling NDC.But Mr. Affail Monnie said on Asempa FM’s current Affairs talk show, “Ekosii Sen” on Thursday that, the GJA was not in a haste to pass any judgment because no evidence had yet been found to prove the allegation.The GJA Vice President said although there was no official confirmation that some journalists gave their names to Baba Jamal, the GJA would use its own mechanisms to investigate the issue.“Journalism should not involve bribery but if the allegations are true, it is unethical in Journalism and will inform our next line of action.
