New Patriotic Party (NPP) former Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea has condemned what he says is President John Mahama’s unwarranted attacks on political opponents who criticize government.
According to him, the president over the years has gained notoriety for hurling “terrible insults” on Ghanaians especially politicians when ever he [Mahama] is under pressure.
Nana Akomea was reacting to President Mahama’s facebook post in which he thanked “wise politicians” for supporting his government.
The president contended that in the face of political and economic challenges, government has done everything possible to “attain development goals it has announced”.
He then added that what the country needs now are politicians with the right attitude not those who predict disaster.
In a riposte, Nana Akomea on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday said he is not surprised about the president’s comment.
To corroborate his claims, Akomea cited how President Mahama used words like “baloney and useless” when he disagreed with arguments being made by the opposition.
The former Okaikoi MP described as unfortunate President Mahama’s incessant vattacks on the people who are ready to assist government to salvage the economy from further collapse.
“How can a president of a country describe some people in the country as foolish?” he quizzed.
The immediate past Director of Communications of the NPP said as opposition, they will offer constructive criticisms and put pressure on government to fulfill all the promises it made to Ghanaians.
“We are not praise singers so we won’t say the things you [Mahama] want to hear” he added.
Nana Akomea urged President Mahama to swallow the bitter pill, focus on governing the country and take the criticisms in good faith.
