Andre Ayew has played down Ghana's chances of winning the Africa Cup of Nations, insisting that their focus is on their opening game against Senegal on Monday.
The Terranga Lions of Senegal were runners-up at the 2000 tournament co-hosted by Ghana/Nigeria and have a galaxy of top stars in Europe major leagues.
Coach Alain Giresse’s side can boost of English Premier League trio: Papiss Cisse (Newcastle United), Mame Biram Diouf (Stoke City) and Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham United).
“The pundits speak much of Senegal, but I think we can beat them looking at morale in camp,” Ayew said in an interview.
“But the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele admitted it will not come that easy for them because Senegal are team to beat in the pool.”
“We have been getting lots of encouragement and support from Ghanaians ahead of the game.In football players need inspiration and efforts like this inspire us the players a lot.The most important thing for us is to qualify from the group and see what will happen next. I want to assure Ghanaians that we will get the victory needed.”He added
The Marseille talisman admitted that the Black Stars during the qualifiers were not invincible and this was as a result of the change in coaches.
The Black Stars will be chasing a fifth Nations Cup trophy at this tournament.
