President Akufo-Addo says the government, in collaboration with the National Media Commission and other bodies, has intensified efforts to curb the spread of fake news, misinformation, and hate speech during the election period.
According to the president, these have the tendency of inciting violence which will affect the peace and stability of the country.
Speaking on the occasion of the 2024 May Day celebration at the Black Star Square, he emphasised the government’s effort to combat the spread of false information, stating that they will do everything in their power to ensure that the “See something, say something” policy is effectively enforced.
“This initiative and all inclusive whole of society campaign encourages citizens to report suspicious activities to the security agencies. Fortunately for us, social partners and workers are well placed to report any suspicious activities to safe guard the peace and security of the country.”
President Akufo-Addo stated that under his leadership, various security institutions have been equipped and reformed to ensure that they can effectively carry out their duties.
He stated that Ghanaians have to be vigilant and must be aware of their surroundings to report any threat to the country's peace and stability.
“Despite these challenges, we must remain steadfast to overcome threats. Securing peace is not only necessary for electioneering campaign but also vital. The peaceful and stable labour front will create a conducive environment for Ghana to implement its policies and programmes and for the economy to grow,”he said.
