The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Augustina Adoma, for allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s personal belongings and stabbing him during a confrontation in Racecourse, Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.
According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, July 2, preliminary investigations revealed that Ms Adoma, who is currently unemployed, visited the home of her former partner, Emmanuel Otabil, a 30-year-old driver, unannounced on the morning of Thursday, 26 June 2025.
Upon finding Mr Otabil in the company of another woman, she allegedly poured a bucket of water over them and seized his Samsung mobile phone before departing the scene.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 4:00 pm, the suspect is said to have returned to Mr Otabil’s kiosk while he was away.
Using a duplicate key, she allegedly gained entry and set fire to a number of his possessions, including a mattress, carpet, blankets, and bedsheets.
A confrontation reportedly took place later that evening when Mr Otabil approached Ms Adoma to demand the return of his phone and to confront her about the fire.
During the altercation, Ms Adoma allegedly picked up a knife belonging to a nearby orange seller and stabbed Mr Otabil in the left side of his chest.
Mr Otabil was initially rushed to Race Course Hospital and later transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital before being moved to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery.
He is currently hospitalised and said to be responding well to treatment.
Police investigations subsequently led to the retrieval of the stolen phone from the suspect, who was arrested at the Tesano Police Station.
Ms Adoma had reportedly gone there to submit a medical report in relation to a separate assault complaint she had filed against the victim.
The case remains under active investigation.
The Accra Regional Police Command has since issued a public warning against acts of personal vengeance, particularly in domestic and relationship-related conflicts.
