An accident involving a tipper truck at Kwashieman in Accra has claimed one life and injured another badly.
Joy News’ Latif Iddrisu, reports that the tipper truck, loaded with chippings was making a forced stop on the instructions of a police officer when the accident occurred.
The traffic light in the area had turned green allowing the truck which was driving fast to pass but the policeman at the junction ordered the driver to stop.
Latif said the driver apparently applied his brakes but the vehicle veered off the road and hit a woman, killing her instantly.
A second victim has been badly injured, the reporter added.
Myjoyonline.com's David Andoh reported residents of the area are angry and have vowed to call a street protest if city authorities do not build an overpass for pedestrians.
They say they have appealed severally for an overpass but all appeals have fallen on deaf ears,

According to them, many people have been killed by speeding vehicles at the same stretch of the road making an overpass a necessity.
The angry residents tried to lynch the police officer who allegedly forced the tipper truck to stop.
ASP Abdulai Mumin said the accident could have been avoided if the driver followed road traffic regulations requiring him to slow down whenever he is approaching an intersection.
He said the driver ignored the advice of the police - an act which led to the accident.
