Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has congratulated the former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on his victory in the party’s recent flagbearer election, describing the outcome as a sign of the party’s enduring democratic strength.
In a statement issued after the internal contest, Mr Boasiako acknowledged that the period following the 2024 general elections had been challenging for the party but said the flagbearer race had demonstrated the NPP’s resilience and unity.
“This process has shown that the NPP remains a strong, democratic and united political family, capable of reorganising and preparing for the future,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman stressed that the party must now focus on rebuilding and reconnecting with its grassroots support base to regain public confidence.
According to him, “The work ahead of us is clear. We must rebuild, reconnect with our base, and restore the confidence of the Ghanaian people,” adding that the task would require “honesty, hard work, discipline and, above all, unity.”
Mr Boasiako said his support for the flagbearer process was driven by the belief that the party’s collective interest must always come before personal ambitions.
“Now is not the time for blame or internal divisions. Now is the time to close ranks and focus on winning again in 2028,” he noted, while calling on party members across all regions to rally behind Dr Bawumia.
He reaffirmed his personal commitment to strengthening the party ahead of the next general elections, saying, “We may have lost in 2024, but we have not lost our spirit, our values, or our belief in Ghana. The NPP will rise again – together,” and concluded with blessings for the party, Ghana’s democracy and the nation.
