The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako Jnr, has thrown out a petition calling for the resignation of Mrs Marrieta Brew Appiah-Oppong, describing the call as a diversionary tactic.

According to the experienced journalist, Alfred Agbesi Woyome's request for the Attorney General's resignation on grounds that her law firm, Lithur Brew & Co, benefitted from some GH¢51 million he (Mr Woyome) and his associates  fraudulently acquired from the state should be disregarded entirely.

Kwaku Baako told Newsfile, a news analysis programme on Joy FM and Joy News channel on Multi TV on Saturday, Mr Woyome's claim is merely a scheme to discredit the Attorney General.

"I think most of his (Woyome's) claims have been of a dubious value. I am not being personal. It's based on the track record that he's established for himself", he said.

Kwaku Baako was reacting to a petition by Mr Woyome, a businessman, shortly after he was acquitted and discharged of causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretence.

The businessman and acclaimed National Democratic Congress (NDC) financer, in that petition asked President John Mahama to cause the Attorney General to recuse herself from appealing his acquittal of the criminal charges.

Mr Woyome based his call for the Attorney General's recusal in appealing the ruling by the High Court on allegations that Lithur, Brew & Co - a firm Mrs Appiah-Oppong is a partner in - received at least a million U.S. dollars (about GH¢3.7 million) from the GH¢51 million wrongly acquired judgement debt.

Mrs Appiah-Oppong and Tony Lithur have since denied the allegations, explaining the firm's involvement with Mr Woyome was when one of his associates, one Ray Smith, hired Lithur, Brew & Co. to retrieve monies Mr Woyome had refused to pay Mr Smith.

Mrs Appiah-Oppong had been seeking Mr Woyome's incarceration after the Supreme Court ruled that the businessman obtained the judgement debt fraudulently.

Mr Baako maintained that Mr Woyome's allegations are false because he did not back them with evidence.

A member of the NDC legal team, Abraham Amaliba is in support of Mr Kwaku Baako's assertions.

Speaking on the programme, Mr Amaliba said he is convinced the petition by Mr Woyome was written without any input from his (Woyome's) legal advisors.
