Leader of the delegation for Team Ghana at the World Athletics Championships, Oregon 2022, Seth Panwum, has described the athletes representing the country at the event as 'champions.'
"You are born champions," Mr Panwum noted during a meeting with the athletes at a training session in Eugene on the eve of the events.
"Ghanaians are with you in spirit and [they] wish you shine in victories for yourselves and the country," he added.
Ghana will be represented by the country's fastest 100m sprinter, Benjamin Azamati, 100m, and 200m specialist, Joseph Paul Amoah, the experienced Sean Sarfo Antwi, and Emmanuel Yeboah.
Others are Joseph Manu and Long jumper, Deborah Acquah.
The quartet of Azamati, Joe Paul, Sarfo-Antwi, and Yaboah were in the final of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and are expected to lead Ghana's quest for glory at the games that will have about 1928 athletes from 200 countries compete in 49 events.
Panwum, who is Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), on behalf of the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, wished the athletes success in the championships and reiterated government's commitment to the development of the sport.

"On behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, and the people of Ghana, I would like to use this occasion to wish you all the best in the World Athletics championships.
"I know you want to win because you are born winners. Make yourselves proud, make your families proud, and make Ghana proud.
"Athletics has been a flag bearer for us as a nation and government is committed to helping you succeed in your chosen profession," he stated.
"We owe ourselves and Ghanaians a duty to excel. Let's step out there and make ourselves proud!"
