In a remarkable display of determination and ingenuity, a 16-year-old student, has successfully implemented a groundbreaking water purification system in Wurompo, a farming community in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

The community is one of many in the area desperately in need of access to clean water.

After dedicating a year to research and development, Ridaan Gupta a Ghana-born Indian student spent four days executing his ambitious project by harnessing the power of evaporation and condensation. The system effectively removes impurities from the water, resulting in a significant improvement in its quality.

With aspirations to extend this solution to other communities across Ghana lacking clean water, the young innovator has become an inspirational figure.

The water purification system utilizes a process of evaporation and condensation to obtain pure, drinkable water from an initially impure source.

The project was born out of the young inventor's desire to address the pressing issue of water scarcity and contamination that plagues many communities in Ghana.

Through his extensive research and testing, he managed to devise a cost-effective and sustainable solution. The system begins by heating the impure water using solar heat, causing it to evaporate. The evaporated water is then condensed and collected, leaving behind the impurities.

This process effectively eliminates harmful substances and decreases the total dissolved solids (TDS) rating of the water.

Initially, the TDS of the water in Wurompo stood at a concerning 140-150, far above the World Health Organization's standard for drinking water, which is less than 50.

However, thanks to Ridaan Gupta's system, the water's TDS level was brought down to a safe range of 30-40, ensuring its fitness for consumption.

The implementation of this innovative water purification system holds significant implications for residents of Wurompo who have been grappling with water scarcity and contamination.

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and the lack thereof poses severe health risks to individuals, particularly children and by providing a locally developed solution that can purify water effectively and efficiently, the young inventor has set a powerful precedent for addressing this critical issue.

The remarkable achievements of this young inventor serve as an inspiration for youths worldwide. In an age where technological advancements are often associated with complex machinery and sophisticated research facilities, this teenager's resourcefulness and commitment have proven that innovative solutions can be developed with limited resources and determined effort.

His story underscores the importance of nurturing curiosity, providing opportunities for exploration and learning, and empowering young minds to tackle real-world problems. The potential for young people to make a meaningful impact on their communities, regardless of their age, should be encouraged and supported.

Some of the residents who are happy about the the development thanked the young innovator and members of Ofi cashew farmers within the Wurompo community who helped in the execution of the project.
