The Rev. Daniel Oppong Wereko, Akyem Oda District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has said that the youth need to be imbued with integrity, hard work and honesty to enable the country to forge ahead.
He noted that the development of the country was under great threat and it was necessary for the youth to grow up with a sense of discipline and hard work.
Rev. Wereko was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) shortly after a meeting with a cross-section of the youth of the church on Thursday at Akyem Oda in the Birim South District of the Eastern Region.
The Reverend Minister deplored the attitude of Ghanaians towards work and cautioned that efforts to build a strong socio-economic base for the country would come to naught if Ghanaians did not change their attitudes towards easy way of acquiring wealth.
Rev Wereko said the lust for wealth through easy ways had witnessed the recent mushrooming of all sorts of games of chance.
"God has given man every opportunity to work and that gambling in any form is evil", he said.
He advised Christians to be steadfast in their faith and show joy in the face of all opposition and difficulties.
According to the Reverend Minister, "Christians as followers of Christ, must always try to uphold the dignity of the gospel".
He advised Christians to rededicate themselves to the development of mankind by being good to their neighbours and serving the country with dedication.
Rev Wereko noted: "We have misplaced our priorities, pushing our spiritual life and worship into the background, while promoting other things which are not the primary factors for spiritual growth and church life".Source: GNA
