Yusif Meizongo Jr., a Ghanaian entrepreneur, is the founder of Maison Yusif, a niche perfume brand that emphasizes creativity and innovation.
He is recognized as Ghana's first perfumer, and his journey is characterized by determination, vision, and a commitment to crafting unique fragrances.
Meizongo, who holds a first-class degree in public relations from the Islamic University in Ghana, began his entrepreneurial journey in 2017 after facing challenges securing traditional employment. He started Maison Yusif from humble beginnings, initially operating from his car.
Over time, he honed his skills as a perfumer, gaining recognition beyond Africa.
To enhance his expertise, Meizongo pursued perfumery studies at renowned institutions in several countries, including CĂ´te d'Ivoire, Germany, Dubai, Turkey, France, Nigeria, Egypt, and Ethiopia. Despite encountering obstacles along the way, Maison Yusif has managed to establish itself as a respected perfume brand. It became the first niche perfume house in Ghana to win an international fragrance award at the Perfumista Awards 2023.
The idea for Maison Yusif was inspired by customers' reactions to the fragrance Meizongo wore while selling various items such as clothing and watches. The brand has since gained a reputation for its distinct fragrances and stylish packaging.
Maison Yusif is committed to using premium ingredients sourced from around the world. Each fragrance is carefully crafted to evoke emotions and memories. With blends featuring notes of amber, vanilla, citrus, and florals, Maison Yusif offers a range of scents that provide a sensory experience.
Meizongo's approach combines traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation, attracting a discerning clientele. His team operates three branches in Accra and Kumasi, and they have developed over ten fragrances to date.
In addition to his work in perfumery, Meizongo has established the Home of Humanity Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the education of children from the Zongo community. The foundation also donates a portion of each perfume sale to Ghanaian orphanages, providing assistance to those in need.
Between 2022 and 2023, the foundation sponsored rehabilitation programs for three adults struggling with drug addiction, helping them find employment opportunities.
Maison Yusif's Vatican fragrance was honored with the Niche Perfume of the Year award at the Perfumista Awards in France. The brand's growing reputation has attracted a dedicated following of perfume enthusiasts and connoisseurs worldwide, solidifying Maison Yusif's presence in the perfume industry.
