Zoomlion Ghana Limited has rolled out the second phase of the emergency clean-up exercise to rid most communities in Accra of filth.
This is a continuation of the first phase of the exercise which was carried out in partnership with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly at the Ayawaso West and Okaikoi sub-metros last week.
Other sub-metros who benefited from the exercise include Ashiedu Keteke, Ablekuma South, Ayawaso West, Ablekuma North, Ayawaso Central, Okaikoi South, Osu Klottey and Ablekuma central.
Addressing participants of the clean-up exercise, the Communications Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr. Adams Mohammed Mahama, stated that sanitation is a shared responsibility but most urban dwellers do not act it.
“Most often, private waste management companies and the assemblies are the institutions that play active role in waste management. But in order to achieve the desired result the third and most important party, that is, the general public should change their attitude and always support the other institution to manage waste”, he said.
He also stated that, when waste is managed well in various communities, diseases such as malaria and cholera will be significantly minimized if not eradicated.
“This will intern save the country and various families lots of money that would have been used for treatment of malaria or cholera”, he observed.

Mr. Daniel Martey, Accra Zone Head of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, explained that specific locations within the various sub-metros will be visited during the one-week exercise and continue to other areas within these sub-metros in the subsequent week.
He again added that Zoomlion as a waste management company will continue to provide the necessary resource and logistics for waste management.
