Twenty senior high schools (SHSs) across Ghana are set to compete in the 2026 National Investment Quiz (NIQ), an initiative aimed at promoting financial literacy and investment education among young people.

Organized by the Young Investors Network (YIN) in partnership with the Ghana Stock Exchange, the Central Securities Depository, and Joy Business, the competition seeks to equip students with practical knowledge of saving, investing, money management, and capital markets.

The eighth edition of the competition will provide a platform for students to demonstrate their understanding of investment principles while competing for seeded investment accounts, educational grants, trophies, and other financial rewards.

Executive Director of Projects at the Young Investors Network, Joshua Mensah, said the initiative seeks to address gaps in financial literacy by equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions.

The competition will feature a series of contests involving participating schools, with successful teams progressing to the subsequent stages.

The following school will participate in the preliminary stage: Kumasi High School, Adisadel College, Our Lady of Mercy SHS, Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion SHS, Corpus Christi SHS, Mfantsipim School, Wesley Girls' Senior High School, St. Louis Senior High School, Accra Academy, Apam SHS. St. John's Grammar School and University Practice Senior High School.

The following schools are seeded and will join at the quarter final stage: St Augustine’s College, West Africa SHS, Opoku Ware, Adonteng SHS,  Presec Legon, Prempeh College,  Wesley Grammar and Mawuko Girls SHS.

Executive Director of Research at the Young Investors Network, Kofi Kyei Busia, said students would also benefit from investment packages provided by participating financial institutions, covering mutual funds, stocks, and fixed-income investments.

Sponsors and supporting institutions include Merban Capital, MTN, ABSA, MSL Business School, and Nimed Capital. JoyNews TV is the broadcast partner.

Beyond the competition, participants will receive mentorship and practical exposure to the financial sector through visits to institutions such as the Ghana Stock Exchange and investment firms.

The quiz will also feature simulated trading sessions, investment advisory exercises, and case studies designed to test students' ability to apply financial knowledge to real-world situations.

The initiative is expected to help students develop practical investment skills and explore career opportunities in the financial sector.

The competition will be held at the University of Ghana, with the grand finale scheduled for October 2, 2026.

The organizers are encouraging students, parents, and the general public to embrace financial literacy and recognize the importance of investment education in building long-term financial security.
