Victor Cudjoe Akpabu (All Stars), former winner of the white jersey in 2012, sprinted to glory about 150m ahead of the leading peloton with panache, to secure his first ever tour stage victory. When as asked about his sentiments after the race, “I’m so happy; it wasn’t easy but I had no choice but to fight for this win, said the softly speaking sprinter. Stage 5 of the tour witnessed a criterium race (120km) within the Tamale Metropolis; the cyclists covered 20 laps within a closed circuit. Having slowed down during stage 3(Assin Fosu to Kumasi), which have affected their time adversely (about 9 minutes behind the Yellow Jersey) the ‘big boys’; Henry Tetteh Djanmah, Samuel Anim, Emmanuel Donkor, and Francis Tetteh had no option but to defend the success choked by their Junior riders, half way through the competition. Francis Tetteh, lead rider for city Mirgro, had to win points at the ‘Point Chaud’ to keep his teammate (Prosper Agbo) in contention for the Yellow Jersey. Prosper sits 15 seconds behind the Yellow Jersey. The Defending Champion, Henry, had to win points to keep his title defense alive and aid his boy, Moro Egala Yakubu, to advance closer to the Yellow Jersey. Moro is 11 seconds behind the Yellow Jersey. Samuel Anim had to hold on to his green and red jerseys and shield his decoy rider, Isaac sackey, who possesses the ultimate Jersey (Yellow Jersey). Anim Samuel triumphed in the first intermediate sprint, followed by Francis Tetteh and Aminu Mohammed. Even though Henry started well, and received a lot of cheers of encouragement from the fans to keep riding fast; the two time winner of the competition flattered to deceive. Prosper Agbo, Dickson Poku and Frank Akuffo efforts to escape the Yellow Jersey peloton came to nothing as they failed to break away from the Yellow Jersey. For the second intermediate sprint (point Chaud) Abdul Razak (Die Hard), Henry’s Domestique, won, closely followed by Tetteh Francis and Henry.
