The People’s National Convention (PNC) Treasure has challenged the government to prioritise job creation in the 2020 budget.
Akane Adams said the rising unemployment rate, especially among the graduate class does not bode well for the future of the country.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the reading of the 2020 budget, the PNC Treasurer has asked the government to demonstrate its commitment to job creation in the coming year.
“The government has not done much in the last three years since it came into office,” Mr Adams said, adding there is the need for a “deliberate policy in terms of bridging the gap between industry and academia.”
With days away to the reading of the 2020 budget, the PNC Treasurer has asked the Finance Minister to tell Ghanaians how much the government would be spending on job creation next year.
But Mr Adams believes “the NPP after three years in office certainly has some positives to talk about and negatives.”
Delving into the positives, he mentioned the “Restoration of the teacher/nursing trainee allowances, Nation Builders’ Corps (NABCO), and the free Senior High School policy.”
The PNC Treasurer is convinced issues such as challenges with the Free SHS and unpaid arrears owed to NABCO beneficiaries can derail efforts of the government.
Mr Adams has charged the government to do more to address the security concerns of many Ghanaians, especially after the brutal murder of the two policemen at Kasoa.
