Ghana’s Black Queens opened their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a thumping 7-0 win over Rwanda on Wednesday afternoon in Kigali.
Nora Haupte’s charges scored three in the first-half before adding four in the second at the Pele Stadium in the rout.
The reverse fixture of the first round qualifying tie will be played in Ghana on Tuesday, September 26, with the Black Queens looking to make their progression to the second round a formality.
Doris Boaduwaa headed in the opening goal of the game just two minutes in from a corner.
The Black Quens doubled their lead through Evelyn Badu in 13 minutes before Princella Adubea added the third in the 28th minute to end the first half 3-0 in favour of Ghana.
Seven minutes after the break, Doris Boaduwaa put the ball on the plate for Alice Kusi to tap in from the middle of the box.
Evelyn Badu bagged a brace five minutes after the hour mark to make it 5-0 for Nora Hauptle’s side before Jennifer Cudjoe missed a penalty two minutes later.
With 15 minutes to the end of the game, Anasthesia Achiaa scored a beautiful volley from the edge of the box before scoring her second from an even farther distance in the 85th minute. Both goals were as a result of poor goalkeeping.
At the end, it looked like a routine win for the Black Queens, as has been the case under the guidance of Swiss coach, Nora Hauptle.
