Six students, a teacher and spouse in the Accra Girls’ Senior High School have tested positive for coronavirus, a joint statement by the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service has confirmed.
The statement said all the necessary control measures have been implemented to prevent the disease from spreading at the school.
It indicated that all eight confirmed patients have currently been taken to a treatment centre for management and are currently doing well.
Noting the steps both sectors have taken so far, the statement stated that all contacts of confirmed cases have been identified and separated.
Also, testing of all contacts have started and the school authorities with support of the Assembly are in the process of disinfecting the affected properties on the school compound.
“The school has put in measures to ensure strict adherence to social distancing and other Covid-19 safety measures.
“Continuous public education sections for staff, students and parents on Covid-19,” the statement said.
Earlier today, parents began trooping to the school to withdraw their wards following reports that the school has recorded some cases of coronavirus nearly a week after the school reopened for final year students.
However, the statement has warned parents against withdrawing their wards.
The statement said that although parents would be anxious about their children’s welfare, removing them from the school could increase the risk of spreading the virus to their various homes and communities.
“Management wishes to inform parents, guardians and the general public to remain assured that in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, all is being done to ensure that our students remain safe and are able to prepare for their impending WASSCE examination in an environment devoid of anxiety.”
