The Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has accused the Information Minister of misleading Ghanaians about the relationship between the president and American gay lobbyist Andrew Solomon.
This follows Mahama Ayariga’s earlier insistence that President John Mahama had no links with the gay lobbyist.
Sammy Awuku who was speaking at a forum organized by pressure group ‘Let My Vote Count’ alliance in Koforidua in the Eastern region Sunday, said the minister lied to Ghanaians when he said at a news conference last Friday that President Mahama had no relationship with Andrew Solomon.
He told the teeming crowds the Mahama-led government is made up of liars.
Mr Awuku wondered how the minister could have denied any relationship between the two when the president was full of praise for Mr Solomon in his book ‘My First Coup d’état’. Sammy said President Mahama thanked the gay lobbyist for helping him launch his book successfully.
Meanwhile the action by the ‘Let My Vote Count’ group forms part of on-going protests in support of the NPP’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo who has petitioned the Supreme Court, seeking to challenge outcome of the December 7 polls.
Speakers were drawn from other opposition parties including the National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples’ National Convention (PNC), Progressive Peoples’ Party (PPP) and the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP).
Joy News’ Benjamin Tetteh, who was at the forum, quoted representatives of the NDP as saying they felt cheated from the moment the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified their presidential candidate.
