Nana Oye Lithur has been sworn into office as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection by the president despite stiff opposition from religious groups.
The group had argued that the Nana Oye's insistence on protecting the rights of gays makes her unfit to occupy a position in a ministry that will cater for the needs of children. She also faced criticisms from some members of the one-sided Parliament that vetted her.
But President John Mahama swore her into office alongside other appointees who were vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament last week.
They include Education Minister Professor Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang, Communication Minister Dr Omane Boamah, Local Government and Rural Development Minister Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, and Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Dr. Oteng Agyei.
