The Standing Committee of the National House of Chiefs says it is ready to work with President Mahama’s nominee for the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs if approved by Parliament.
Their stance is contrary to that of the Paramount chief of the Seikwa Traditional Area in the Brong Ahafo region, Nana Kwaku Dwomo Ankoana II. He and other chiefs in the Ashanti region are protesting the nomination of the visually impaired lawyer, Dr Henry Seidu Daanaa saying it is an abomination to choose a physically-challenged person to lead a chieftaincy institution.
But at a meeting with President Mahama today, the President of the National House of Chiefs, Professor John Nabilla said they have confidence in the nominee and will work with him.
The chiefs are therefore hoping that Dr Daanaa goes through vetting successfully on Friday, Multi TV’s Gifty Andoh-Appiah reported.
President John Mahama has expressed confidence in Dr Henry Daanaa to modernise the chieftaincy institution.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Federation of the Disabled is asking chiefs whose traditional beliefs bar them from interacting with persons with disability to modify their stance.
Speaking to Joy News after addressing a press conference, the President of the Federation of the Disabled, Yaw Debra urged the chiefs to adhere to the acts in the Constitution.
