The Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana has asked the Presidency to bring to book, whoever is responsible in the circumstances that have resulted in doctors’ resolve to embark on a nationwide industrial action.
The Ghana Medical Association withdrew outpatient services starting Monday, as it embarks on a nationwide strike over salary distortions concerning the conversion differences and market premiums.
The Association subsequently declared that it will no longer enter into verbal agreements, with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) as they press home their demands.
President John Mahama has reportedly invited the leadership of the GMA to a meeting to try to settle the impasse.
However, the CCAG is convinced some authorities concerned must be sanctioned, for not acting decisively to avert the strike.
“Even though we appreciate the President’s intervention, we would be happy if this practice is discouraged so as to bring efficiency to institutions and the civil service,” the CCAG stressed in a release issued on Tuesday and copied to Myjoyonline.com.
“Why should the Presidency come in when institutions - the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, National Labour Commission, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance - are there to make sure we don't get to this situation;” the statement posed.
The statement further condemned “in no uncertain terms, the sacrifice of the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian, due to the lackadaisical and incompetent approach by institutions put into place by the tax payers’ money to take care of the people”.
