A 17 year old student has filed a complaint of attempted rape against a police officer in Akyim Oda in the Eastern region. Narrating her story to Joy News, the girl said she obliged to meet the said police officer outside her home though it was late because she was certain he would not harm her.
According to her, the officer drove off to a guest house where she was coerced into a room. Sensing danger she requested to use the wash room, where she called and informed her brother of her whereabouts.
The student maintained that when she refused the drink offered her by the police officer, he got closer and forced her onto the bed in the room. In the struggle that ensued, she fell off onto the floor.
“Once I got up I rushed to the corner of the room, he pursued me and started fingering me. In fact, he virtually tore my dress. Then I heard voices in the corridor,” she narrated.
The officer, who is said to have quickly dressed to leave the premises upon hearing the voices, met the girl’s brother on his way out. The two siblings subsequently went to the police station where the complaint was filed.
The Eastern Regional Deputy Police Commander, ACP James Abass who confirmed the case to Joy News, said the officer in question has been suspended pending investigations of the matter. He also added that if found guilty, the officer would be prosecuted.
