Former Director General of the Ghana Health Services Prof. Agyeman-Badu Akosa has criticized parents who keep quiet over sexual matters and simply admonish their children to remain abstinent.
According to Prof. Akosa, such a situation makes children curious, making them more likely to indulge in sexual activities at an earlier age.The pathologist was speaking at a reproductive health seminar dubbed The SexTalk Forum, held in Accra on Friday, February 15, 2013.The Forum aimed to help demystify sex and break the silence on issues concerning reproductive health, sex and sexuality, which many people prefer not to discuss.Prof. Akosa encouraged parents and teachers to talk more openly about sex to young people while informing them about contraceptives.Other speakers included councilor and sex therapist Rev. George Lutterodt and Dr. Koma Jehu-Appiah, the Country Director for Ipas Ghana. The maiden SexTalk Forum was sponsored by Ipas Ghana with support from Kenzo’s Place and Fiesta Condoms. It will be a quarterly forum and its next edition will come in May 2013.
