Surgeons at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital say they are set to operate on a pair of Siamese twins this Tuesday. The three-month-old infants’ story was highlighted in a Hotline documentary that aired on Joy FM and won the babies a great deal of public sympathy. The twins were born joined at the belly and have remained in the hospital ever since. The surgery to separate them had to be postponed twice as a result their feverish condition, which doctors said needed to be monitored for some time before the surgery could be performed. Their condition is now stabilized and pediatrician Dr Nimako Boateng told Joy News that the stage is set for the surgery to be performed tomorrow. After the twins’ story was aired, several individuals and companies, including MTN, came to their aid. The MTN Foundation donated Gh¢ 20,000 towards the surgery while Joy FM and its listeners donated Gh¢ 12,970 to the babies’ parents.
