One of the two Siamese twins separated in a marathon surgery Tuesday has died. Dr Boateng Nimako of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital confirmed this to Luv FM's Ohemeng Tawiah Wednesday evening. She was said to have died from a complication of a hole in her heart that doctors intended to operate on after the separation surgery. The two were said to be in critical condition after the surgery and were kept in the Intensive Care Unit. Doctors are still working to keep the other twin alive. A team of 17 doctors spent nearly nine hours performing the complex surgery on the twins, who were joined at the stomach and waist. The story of the three-month-old infants gained a great deal of national attention after it was highlighted in a Hotline Documentary on Joy FM. MTN Foundation donated GH¢ 20,000 towards the surgery while Joy FM and its listeners raised GH¢ 12,970 for the twin’s parents.
