Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service managed to bring under control, raging fires that engulfed the North Industrial Area facility of Haxagon, manufactures of paint products including Anchor Gold paint.
It took about seven fire tenders over three hours to bring the blaze under control.
The factory, which also had a food processing plant – Food Tech – producers of Snappy snack - shares a wall with the Ghana Carton Box MFG Company.
An employee of Hexagon, who pleaded anonymity, told Myjoyonline.com the fire followed a loud explosion at the production section of the company which also produces Flamingo paints.
A 23-year-old employee of the company named only as Mary collapsed after the fire outbreak and was rushed to the Lakeside Clinic. She has since regained consciousness.
A young man who also attempted to loot the burning building was nearly lynched by an angry mob.
Michael Gabianu, Assistant Operations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service told Myjoyonline.com after the fire was brought under control that they were yet to ascertain the cause but added that investigations will soon begin.
He said they could not also readily assess the extent of damage caused by the fire.
He however noted that “a lot of drums of chemicals got burnt and some of the paints.”
