Eni Ghana launched the “Clean beach” initiative, a community-based project to clean-up the shorelines of the communities of Sanzule, Bakanta, Krisan and Eikwe, in the Western Region.
The scheme is designed to improve waste collection and waste management activities in the area.
The “Clean Beach” day took place on January 31st with the massive turnout from the communities, Eni Ghana and main contractors. The District Chief Executive, Kwasi Bonzoh, and his team also participated along with representatives from GNPC, EPA and Petroleum Commission.
Over 11,300kg of waste were collected, of which over 500kg of plastic. Waste management services specialists Zoomlion and Zoil picked up the collected waste for the relevant treatment in compliance with Eni’s and National requirements.

The plastic waste, in particular, will be added to Zoil’s plastic waste recycling stream, in line with Eni’s integrated circular economy model, which seeks to contribute significant environmental benefits through the reuse of waste.
All cleaning materials were donated to the communities in order to improve the culture of waste management not only on the beach but also in the communities.
The “Clean Beach Day” forms part of Eni Ghana’s initiatives to promote good practices in health, safety and environment, and is based on a strong engagement with the District Assembly and communities on how to segregate plastic and organic waste.

Sanzule, Bakanta, Krisan and Eikwe are located in close proximity to OCTP’s Onshore Receiving Facility, where gas produced from the Sankofa field in the OCTP block is compressed and delivered to Ghana’s grid.
Eni has been present in Ghana since 2009 through its subsidiary Eni Ghana. Eni is Operator of the OCTP Integrated Oil&Gas Development Project (Eni 44.44%, Vitol 35.56%, GNPC 20%).
