The Executive Director of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah has called on corporate bodies in Ghana to emulate their example and pursue development-oriented Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies.
This, he stated will accelerate the socio-economic development of the country and impact positively in the lives of the citizenry.
Dr. Eduah made the comment while speaking at a ceremony in Bawku in the Upper West region to commission 10 newly constructed boreholes funded by the Foundation.
He underscored the need for corporate bodies with the requisite resources to place greater emphasis on CSR goals that promote social change and alleviate poverty in society.”
“The era of donating items to the needy often as a PR tool no longer yields sustainable impact so companies must stop treating their CSR outfits as an appendage of their larger establishments” Dr. Eduah opined.
He said “GNPC has taken the bold step in setting up a fully operational entity in its Foundation to be responsible for the Corporation’s CSR drive to enhance the capacities of individuals and impact the lives of Ghanaians”.
As the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of the Corporation, the GNPC Foundation is pivoted on three thematic areas – Education and Training, Environment & Social Amenities and Economic Empowerment. GNPC Foundation swooped top prize as the SSI Foundation of the Year at the Sustainability & Social Investment Awards in November, 2018.
Also, in April 2019, GNPC made the list of 2019 Top 50 Social Impact Companies in Ghana by Avance Media Africa for empowering communities and individuals through the GNPC Foundation.
