Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Mr Martin Amidu and Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Domelevo, have been hailed as superheroes for their unwavering fight against corruption.
Danish Ambassador to Ghana, Tove Gegnbol, said the two persons have gained international admiration for their work.
“One of the persons is the Special Prosecutor and anti-corruption person Martin Amidu and the other one is the Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo...I had the pleasure of travelling with both fine respectable gentlemen to the International Conference on anti-corruption last year in October. It made a deep impression on me to see how participants from other countries admired the two. The fact that the audit reports are published as soon as they are edited is meeting best international practices,” she said.
She noted that Ghana is blessed to have these two gentlemen who are “completely independent of powerful interests” in society.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Integrity Awards in Accra on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, Ms Gegnbol said: “Ghana is fortunate to have two such persons, who, in my view, are superheroes when it comes to combating corruption.”
She further commended the decision by President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint Mr Amidu as the first Special Prosecutor of Ghana.
“The president made a bold move when an election promise was put into practice and it was even more remarkable that he appointed the person who was completely independent of powerful interests,” she said.
