The Bryan Acheampong Foundation (BAF), a non-governmental organisation, has presented a GH¢250,000 cheque to the Presbyterian University College, for some 70 teachers offering postgraduate programmes there.The amount is part payment of the total scholarship value of GH¢429,000.00 being awarded to teachers within the Kwahu East Municipality in the Eastern Region.Making the presentation, Bryan Acheampong who is also the Member of Parliament for the area, expressed personal joy in the opportunity given BAF to sponsor the post graduate education of the 70 teachers, while another 30 teachers will also be shortlisted to pursue undergraduate courses at the Presbyterian University College.The Minister of State in charge Security, implored the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the Bryan Acheampong Foundation so that the scholarship scheme would be extended to the advantage of many other teachers.The cheque was received by the President of the Presbyterian University College, Rev. Prof Addo ObengHe disclosed, that “BAF has a 20-year-plan to turn the whole of the Kwahu area into a college town, where the society is infused with learned people who act as change agents in turning around the fortunes of the community.”To this end, he called on other citizens who could sponsor just a student, to do so without having to wait for an opportunity to sponsor lots of students, as has been done by BAF. The NGO has so far undertaken a number of interventions programmes in the constituency including the maternal health initiative, student mentee programme, Thrift shop for the aged, Youth-in-apprenticeship -YIA and Livelihood empowerment.Mr. Bryan Acheampong was optimistic that BAF will touch more lives this year, following the allocation of about GH¢1.5 million as fund for the various social interventions programmes it intends to embark upon.Reverend Professor Addo Obeng, thanked the Foundation for a worthy cause and charged the beneficiaries to submit themselves wholly for the programme.He reiterated the need for the beneficiaries to stay within the community to impart their enhanced skills after completing the scholarship programme which they have freely received.
