Former WBC Super Featherweight Champion Azumah Nelson says the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) must give priority to technical development to help halt the decline of the sport.
Nelson is saddend by the ailing sport and has attributed the downward spiral to the lack of coaches to refine boxing talents.
"Ghana boxing is dying. We need the right people at the right time to train the boxers," Nelson told Asempa FM sports.
"Boxing is not about talking. It is an act. We need the good coaches to teach the children about the techniques in boxing.
The 55-year-old added: I can't say government is not focused on boxing. It is a shift in interest. At first, it was boxing, and it moved to athletics, now it is football. There will be a time that the focus will shift back to boxing."
Azumah Nelson is widely considered as the greatest African boxer ever, having retired with a record of 47 bouts- 39 wins (28 by K0), 6 loses and 2 draws.
