President of the Ecological Organic Agricultural Platform of Ghana (EOAP-G) has said farmers don’t engage in organic farming because they don’t know the opportunities there.
Speaking at the launch of West African Organic Conference in Accra, Dr. De Fenzy Schandorf said the intensive farming method has caused severe ecological imbalances, making the land less fertile and increasing plant diseases.
He noted that, over the last decades, farmers relied on intensive farming techniques that use chemical fertilisers, pesticides and other products to raise crop productivity,
Dr. Schandorf urged farmers should increase the use of bio-organic products in agricultural production because it would sustain the health of soils, preserve biodiversity and improve people’s health.
The West African Organic Conference will be held in Accra from the 12th-15th of November 2019.
