Former member of Plantashun Boi, Ahmedu Augustine, popularly known as Blackface, has finally taken his former band member Innocent Idibia (2Baba) to court for allegedly stealing his song.
According to him, his action is purely for a professional reason as someone who has been fighting for a better payment system for songwriters.
“I sincerely want to apologize to close friends, relatives, well-wishers who may have been affected by my actions or inactions over the years.
“My issues with Mr Innocent Idibia aka 2face & co are purely professional and my lawyers have filed my claims in court, to be served to all parties in due time,” he wrote on Instagram.
In 2016 Blackface accused 2Baba formerly known as 2face of stealing the song ‘Let Somebody Love You’. The song was part of 2face’s Ascension album released in 2014 with American singer and songwriter Bridget Kelly.
He took to social media to call out 2Baba saying “You singing #LetsomebodyLoveYou without telling me when you know it’s my song isn’t going down without the world knowing what you and you manager Efe been doing …am coming for una, don’t get it twisted.”
“Since you decided to hide you know I still let you know a piece of my mind @official2baba and well meet in court about my publishing,” he had written.
In his recent post, Blackface revealed that he delayed in filing the complaint in court because he was giving 2Baba the chance to do what’s right.
He stated that songwriters should be recognised and credited for their contribution to any piece of work used commercially or otherwise.
“I will never be intimidated by any threat My intention has never been to expose anybody but the truth finds it’s way out eventually. I will also continue to defend myself in the N50 million suit they filed against me which comes up for mediation on November 25, 2019,” he wrote.
Blackface added that he would not comment on the issue again until the lawsuits have been concluded.
Plantashun Boiz were a Nigerian Hip-hop and RnB group. It consisted of 2face Idibia, Faze and Blackface. The group was formed during their college years in Enugu, at the Institute Of Management And Technology (I.M.T Enugu).
