Aside from their difficulty in communicating with people who do not understand sign language; students at the Wa School for the Deaf are battling water challenge in the school.
According to the headmaster of the school, Sylvester Bayor, the age-old water pump they are using is wearing out and they fear it will breakdown on them if not replaced.
“We are not enjoying water from the Ghana Water Company. We have our system and we use a submersible water pump. For years now it has been running but now showing signs of ageing, if we don’t replace it we will run into trouble.”
He made this known when staff and management of the Petroleum Commission donated some water storage and office equipment to the school. The items included two complete water closets, Pedrollo water pump, Sintex 4,000 litres Tank, photocopy machines and Uninterruptible Power Supply devices.
The headmaster expressed his appreciation to the company and further called on the government to help construct a KG block for the school. According to him, the school is faced with chocked classrooms.
Speaking after the donation, CEO of the Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille Jnr said the donation was contributions from staff after the company got wind of the challenges facing the school.
He also revealed they will be making similar donations to other institutions.
The items donated are valued at GH¢26,000 Ghana.
The donation comes weeks after management and staff of the Petroleum Commission donated dual desks to deprived schools in the Western Region.
