The government has nudged by one of its own to make a game changing move in educational policy.
Siaka Stevens, New Patriotic Party MP for Jaman North, addressing students of Sunyani Senior High, called for Computer Science to be made a compulsory subject at basic and second cycle level.
His address was part of a programme to climax a three-day computer programming practical training in the Bono regional capital.
He stated accelerated progress could not be attained without the efficient application of ICT which is based on the knowledge of computer science, and must be made part of the core subjects - English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies.
Mr. Stevens, who is also the Deputy Minister for the Bono Region said, the move, if considered by the Ghana Education Service (GES), would help pupils and students in their academic and professional progress.
The training dubbed “Hour of Code” introduced the students to ICT for inventions, how to become computer application developers and how they would choose their career path at the tertiary level with the effective use of computer knowledge for socio-economic development.

Gabriel Kwadwo Afram, the school’s ICT Tutor and facilitator of the training earlier stressed that “ICT is about creativity and problem solving,” Graphic Online reported.
“In that wise if the nation placed premium on its studies, it could lead to job creation and consequently wealth-creation for an improved standard of living,” Mr. Afram said.
